World’s first jet aircraft 🥇The Horten Ho 229 looked like something pulled from the future despite being designed in the 1940s.Built as one of the world’s first jet-powered flying wings during WWII, it was engineered for speed, efficiency, and reduced drag using a radically smooth blended shape unlike most aircraft of its era. That same shape also gave it a smaller radar signature, which is why it’s constantly compared to modern stealth aircraft. What makes it even more interesting is that much of the structure used wood because Germany was running low on metal late in the war. Some researchers even believe the charcoal-based glue may have slightly absorbed radar waves unintentionally. Its projected speed could outperform many Allied fighters at the time, yet only prototypes were completed before the war ended. The wild part is that its silhouette still resembles aircraft like the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit more than 70 years later. Historical images credit: FFZ-C1M
