Rubab is the national instrument of Afghanistan and its origins date back from the 7th Century and its roots from Central Afghanistan.  It is also known as “the Lion of Instruments”.  It is mainly played by Afghan, Tajik, Kashmiri and Persian classical musicians.The Rubab was played for the first time in northern Afghanistan around Balkh. Others claim it was invented in Ghazni.  Both the Beautiful Rubab and Santur are creations of Afghanistan’s Abu Nasir Al Farabi of Faryab Province, the notable philosopher ,scholar , and inventor created a series of instruments . Original the invention would be used for the sufic gatherings of the Royal courts of Kabul.
